Fire Emergency

In the event of a fire, life safety systems in 400 WEST MARKET will respond automatically to contain the damage. All base building systems can also be controlled manually.

The Louisville Fire Department is familiar with our system and will be on sight within minutes.

In addition, Floor Wardens on each level have been trained in emergency evacuation procedures. They will be wearing special hats for quick identification during any emergency.

There is very little risk of a fire spreading in 400 WEST MARKET, but in the event there is an emergency, it is essential that you be able to do your part.

Fire Evacuation Plan

IF YOU SEE FIRE, SMOKE OR SMELL SOMETHING BURNING

  • Immediately call the Fire Department at 911 and/or activate the fire alarm pull station.
  • Call Property Management at 502.585.4200.
  • Isolate the fire, if possible, by closing the door.
  • Contact the fire warden(s) on the floor with the fire and give the location and severity of the fire.
  • If directed to evacuate by the fire department or the Property Management Office, or if unsafe conditions warrant leaving the floor, evacuate DOWN to the next re-entry floor by using the fire exit stairs... never use the elevator!

IF YOU THINK YOU SMELL SMOKE

  • Immediately call Property Management at 502.585.4200.
  • Contact the fire warden(s) on the floor with the odor and give the location and characteristic of the odor.

IF YOU HEAR THE FIRE ALARM

  • Stay calm.
  • Follow instructions given by Floor Warden and/or the Fire Department.
  • Close doors behind you but do not lock them. Feel doors before opening and do not open any that are hot. Do not return to area for papers or personal articles.
  • When instructed, evacuate as directed via building fire stairs. If you are disabled, await help in the stairwell.
  • Do not use elevators. If you are in an elevator when the alarm sounds, do not push the emergency stop button. The elevator will automatically return to its base level and open.
  • If smoke is present, stay low. The best air is near the floor. If you are outside the building during a fire, stay far enough away to avoid possible falling glass.

All stairwell doors and exits are automatically unlocked. The emergency generator will power specific life safety equipment in the event of a power failure. The building alarm system will be monitored 24 hours a day, seven days a week by an independent alarm company and the building's courtesy staff.
